Helllo! So I'm back after that battle with food poison. That must have been the longest 2.5 days I have ever seen (smh with my eyes closed)! Anyway, I'm back and running wild!!! ;)

i see LoVe & i find it beautiful

A thousand words

I have had the chance to live all around the world but nothing ever compares to home. Home being, Rocky Mount, NC. Roc City (known to the locals) definitely has become a lot more modern than it was a decade and a half ago but there is still that sense of 'HOME' every time I ride into town.

My maternal grandparents, Louis Underhill & Thelma Holmes - Underhill birthed 12 children before my grandmothers passing in 1966 of cancer. Few years later in 1971, my grandad remarried. Shortly thereafter, grandad and his second wife birthed 3 children. Fourteen (14) maternal aunts & uncles later, I still search for the answer, how did meema and pawpaw handle the inconsistencies of the world and a house full of teenagers and young children.

The story, I have always gotten about the picture below was, it was taken 3 years before the untimely passing of meema. With an undeniable smile on her face and the charming smile of my grandfather, what was it like on that sunny day in North Carolina? What made them take this photo? Who captured the photo? That smile on meema's face is one I have seen many times on my aunts and moms face. Is a smile that hid pain? Or was it a genuine smile that simply illustrated happiness? Did she press his suit? Did she have one of her teenage daughters do her hair because she was tired from taking care of the younger children? Who was watching the children when they were snapping this picture? Where the kids playing close by when this picture was taken?

Questions. Questions! Questions..?

At any rate, this picture is worth a thousand words.

EIGHTEEN - 40 - SIXTY rule

Top of the mrng to you at 650a! I hope you all are doing well and prepared for yet another, Monday. I want to start with saying, I had a great weekend despite a few clouds but in all, it was cool! I am so glad that things happened the way they did. With that being stated, let me take you right into the 18/40/60 rule. Some of you may be familiar with it, some of you may not. Either way, let me do some explaining!

After conversing with a good friend about "life and its uncertainties", I walked over to my bookshelf, "The Success Principles: How to Get From Where You Are to Where You Want To Be" by Jack Canfield immediately danced under my fingertips and I got lost for a few minutes. A simple pearl I picked up when Canfield explained Dr. Amen's rule, it  clearly states,       

      "When you’re 18, you worry about what everybody is thinking of you; 

      when you  40, you don’t give a darn what anybody thinks of you; 

      when you’re 60, you realize nobody’s been thinking about you at all"

      After I read it, I sat back then smiled and said "dag aint that the truth". I'm 27 years young and when I think about where I was 9 years ago, I was pressed on finding out what it took to be at the top of my social game and failing to realize in all I was trying to be, I had no idea who I was. People will talk about you no matter how well or how well you are not doing so it is your responsibility to make sure YOU are doing for self. In all honesty, as much as I say I don't worry about what people have to say about me, there are some situations where there is concern. 

     Now, lol when I was 18, my parents were at 40 and I remember there would be times where my mom would be at home basketball games with my sister, aunt and uncle, yelling and screaming for me to "shoot the ball" or "grab the ball" and I would shake my head like wow, do they really have to be that loud lol But with that, where was my focus? Not on the game because, "you worry about what everyone thinks of you". My mom would always say lol "why you worried about what everybody has to say, they gon talk about you no matter what you do" & how true is that!

     Finally, at 60, I will use my granma, Lucinda Cofield as an example. She must be one of the most god-fearing and humbly soft spoken spirits around me (surrounded by a few)! Granma became more vocal with the passing of my dad back in 2007 & during the course of mourning she would say, "ain nobody worried about granma, Ima be alright".  I would get a little offended and she would interrupt my sensitivity and tell me, "keep on livin, one day people just forget about you". *Pause* --- all this time, this rule, 18/40/60 has been right before my eyes without me understanding it, fully. I use the quotes from life because it's very important that I do not lose focus on the foundation that has gotten me where I am.

Headstrong and absolutely positively connected...I am but sometimes, I still find myself, 'worrying about what everyone is thinking about me". It's okay, I'm not quite 40 yet ;)

im at a place in my life where it's either go hard or go home. i choose to go hard.i spin around and vomit...forget this part time shit i need a new grind. a little bit of everything, the new and improved. im becoming her. the person im suppose to be. it's the process. right now im becoming something.the american dream, come straight from the bottom to the top. everyone likes a good story. everybody got a testimony. we all have one. when my back's against the wall i react, secretly though, i know you admire that shit right. im a risk taker which already makes me half right. my President is black bout the same complexion as my sexy ass girlfriend but my hustle ain't through. my schitt. i am what i think i am.

MY rules to growth & success

iHave had the opportunity to travel the world & meet some great people. here are some of my rules that are essential to growth and success. 

1. Invest In The Process

if you inspire to be a runner, get a great pair of running shoes. if you inspire to be a great leader, know right from wrong and understand your actions speak louder than words. if you have to take a pay cut to get past the glass ceiling at your current job & you see growth with the new company, INVEST IN THE PROCESS.

2. Be Honest

if you are not comfortable with something someone says, does or implies, be honest and speak your mind. if you fail to express how you feel, honestly, know one will ever know how you feel!

3. Encourage Yourself

coming from a place where i was teased for being the biggest and/or one of the smartest, iHave learned to be MY primary source of motivation. i use my Bible daily for a source of encouragement but i am a firm believer that you cannot rely on other people to help you seek your purpose in life.

4. Offer Your Help 1st 

offer your help before you observe the struggle. if someone helps you out, do what you can to help them out. no rocket science to it! 

5. Virtual Favors - Texts & Emails, Don't Do It!

we have become such a virtual society! we rely on facebook, twitter, email, text & pass the message theory that we have almost forgot what it's like to have a face to face conversation to get what it is you need. physical connections, face to face conversations, go a long way!

6. BE A PERSON OF YOUR WORD

let your word be your BOND! excuses are no good. dont fill the cup with promises if you can't hold it!

7. Organic Growth.

urgent processes are always followed by calls and emails for a response but do not become a pest. let process grow in their time. "IT'S EASIER TO CUT YOU OFF THAN PUT YOU ON".

8. Be Respectful

for me this goes hand&hand with HUMILITY! the same way you acquired your material items is the same way you can lose those things! be respectful of those who have and those who do not have! you never know when you're talking to an "angel".

9. Be Generous

 generosity seems to be a lost trait! a smile is the most generous gift you can give to another person. in the workplace, if someone seems to be having a down day, a small nudge with a smile will make things that much better, believe me! SMILE

 

10. Don't Use People

finally, don't use people! you never want to take someone's kindness for a weakness. don't assume someone has the hookup because they work at the hottest electronic store or because they know "Diddy" or "Jorge Peniche". be mindful and don't use people because everything you think they may have, may not be the case at all!

For me, everyday is a struggle when I kno that I deserve more but I have a great partner and some great people around me that keep me encouraged so I don't fall down. I'm still here and I'm blessed each and every day!

 

Remain Humble. Stay Focused. & Encourage Yourself

Whats up world! It's been a long time coming. I usually get started with blogs and I don't finish the task because of work, relationships and/or I honestly...no bull, I just forget.
